The diversity of Swiss symphonic music from the late 18th to the early 20th century is hardly known to concertgoers today. Swiss classics and romantics lead a shadowy existence. This is precisely where the Swiss Orchestra, founded in 2018, comes in: it has set itself the goal of bringing forgotten Swiss symphonists back to the concert stage and making them directly accessible throughout Switzerland. This double CD features works from the orchestra’s concert programmes from recent years, with compositions ranging from Beethoven’s contemporary Franz Xaver Schnyder von Wartensee to George Templeton Strong, who was born in New York and died in Geneva in 1948.
