Armenien hat eine lange und lebendige Musiktradition, die mehr als den Säbeltanz von Khachaturian zu bieten hat. Diese wurde ab dem späten 19. Jahrhundert vor allem von dem Priester und Musikwissenschaftler Komitas Vardapet gesammelt und weiterentwickelt. Die armenische Pianistin Tsovinar Suflyan stellt auf ihrem Album Armenian Miniatures für PROSPERO ein abwechslungsreiches Programm mit Klavierwerken von Komponisten aus ihrer Heimat vor, das neugierigen Musikliebhabern eine Ahnung von der entdeckenswerten Musikkultur des Landes im sagenumwobenen Kaukasus vermittelt.

More than sabre dancing
Armenia has a long and vibrant musical tradition that has more to offer than Khachaturian’s sabre dance. This was collected and developed from the late 19th century onwards, primarily by the priest and musicologist Komitas Vardapet. On her album Armenian Miniatures for PROSPERO, Armenian pianist Tsovinar Suflyan presents a varied program of piano works by composers from her homeland, giving curious music lovers an idea of the musical culture of the country in the legendary Caucasus that is well worth discovering.
